Vision Our vision is to prepare students to become responsible citizens. We intend to do this by making them aware of the political, social, environmental and global issues they will face in the years to come. We will help them develop an appreciation for the diverse cultures, an important attribute in this new world. In addition, the program will strive to instill the personal qualities of self-reliance, service and leadership.
Academic Rigor and Personalization Our goal is to significantly improvement the number of students who successfully complete graduation requirements. To promote this outcome, students will create a Personal Learning Plan (PLP). This plan will establish each student’s individual academic goals and strategies to achieve them.
We will offer a theme-based curriculum. Several teachers from different subject areas will work on a common topic such as global warming. Themes will change throughout the year, depending on student interest. We will emphasize hands-on activities, internships and community projects. In addition, volunteer work and service projects will augment these efforts.
By graduation, we expect each student to be aware of his or her social, academic, and career goals, and to be able to clearly articulate his/her post-secondary aspirations.
The school’s counselor will meet with each student at least twice a year to discuss their Personal Learning Plan, required classes and credits. Together they will set goals for each successive school year. The PLP will include all of this information, as well as tutoring schedules, intervention and advanced classes, or additional personal learning needs.
Teachers will meet on a regular basis to discuss improvements to the program and individual student concerns. Supportive relationships with both students and parents on an interpersonal and instructional level will be a priority.
We are committed to creating an environment that is student-centered, academic and personalized. Welcome to the small learning community - GLOBAL STUDIES.
